What If John 3:16 Were Not True?
By Pastor David Kuntz

I truly believe John 3:16 is the greatest verse in all of Scripture.  “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”  The reformer Martin Luther called John 3:16 the little Bible.  It has been called the gospel in a nutshell.  If there was ever a verse the Devil would love to blot out of the Bible it would be John 3:16.  These 25 words in Scripture have been used in the salvation of so many souls.  Yes, if there was ever a verse that lighted the path to Heaven, it is John 3:16.  But have you ever thought about what it would be like if this great verse were not true?

First, what if God had not loved the world?  Without His love there would be no hope at all!  This dark planet would be nothing more than a mass of rock hurtling through space.  There would be nothing for which to live.  Every death would be the end of personal hope and every grave would be a place of despair!  But praise be to God, for He did love the world!  Everything we see speaks of His love from every sunrise to every face of a child.  The greatest expression of God’s love was seen in the cross!  John 3:16 states, “For God so loved the world.”  Second, what if God had not given us His Son?   God’s love would have been frustrated without the cross.  For, He wouldn’t have been able to redeem His creation. But praise be to God, for He did give us his only begotten Son.  Apart from this gift there would be no salvation.  John 3:16 states, “That He (God) gave us His only begotten Son.”  Third, what if God’s offer of salvation were not to the “whosoever’s”?  If His invitation were limited to just a few or certain individuals, God wouldn’t be a just God.  What if God had only offered salvation to the healthy and wealthy or educated?  But praise be to God, for he offered salvation to everyone, regardless of their credentials, to come and be saved!  John 3:16 states “That whosoever.”  Last, what if God’s offer were not based on faith alone?  Men and women all over the world would be slaving themselves to death trying to earn a holy God’s favor.  But it would all be fruitless, for the Scripture says, “All of our righteousness are as filthy rags”  (Isaiah 64:6).  But John 3:16 states, “Whosoever believes on Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”  Again I say, praise be to God, for the Scripture says all we have to do to be saved is believe.  It is nothing complex or anything too difficult.  Anyone can believe.  Have you become one of the “whosoever’s”?  Have you put your faith in Christ alone for salvation?  If not, to delay is to risk perishing into a fiery inferno called Hell where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth!   Jesus said, “He who does not believe is condemned already”  (John 3:18).  Don’t play games with your soul.  Get your reservation to Heaven and gift of everlasting life today.  Please contact me at my e-mail address on our web page and I would love to introduce you to my Savior, Jesus Christ!
